Staind - Chapter V free essay sample

Staind has been my favorite band for five years and never fails to create amazing songs with each CD. â€Å"Chapter V,† however, is definitely not their best album. Aaron Lewis, the lead singer, continues to use his incredible talent to create songs that are heavy and dark, but this time, the songs are repetitive. â€Å"Chapter V† rather resembles â€Å"Break the Cycle† and with just 12 songs, it is pretty evenly split between heavy and soft tracks. If you are looking for Stainds old heavy music, then â€Å"Cross to Bear,† â€Å"Falling,† â€Å"King of All Excuses,† â€Å"Paper Jesus,† â€Å"Reply† and â€Å"Run Away† will be your favorites. If you are a fan of the acoustic-type songs, â€Å"Devil,† â€Å"Everything Changes,† â€Å"Please,† â€Å"Schizophrenic Conversations† and â€Å"Right Here† will be more your style. As with all of Stainds albums, theres at least one song for everyone. I give this CD four out of five stars even though Staind has just repeated what they have said in the past. In Charlotte Brontes Jane Eyre the main character, JaneEyre, explores the depth at which women may act in society and finds her ownboundaries in Victorian England. As well, along with the notions of feminismoften follow the subjects of class distinctions and boundaries. There is an ample amount of evidence to suggest that the tone of JaneEyre is in fact a very feminist one and may well be thought as relevant to thewomen of today who feel they have been discriminated against because of theregender. At the beginning of the 19th century, little opportunity existed forwomen, and thus many of them felt uncomfortable when attempting to enter manyparts of society. The absence of advanced educational opportunities for womenand their alienation from almost all fields of work gave them little option inlife: either become a house wife or a governess. Although today a tutor may beconsidered a fairly high class and intellectual job, in the Victorian era agoverness was little more than a servant who was paid to share her scarce amountof knowledge in limited fields to a child. With little respect, security, orclass one may certainly feel that an intelligent, passionate and opinionatedyoung woman such as Jane Eyre should deserve and be capable of so much more. The insecurity of this position, being tossed around with complete disregard forher feelings or preferences, is only one of many grueling characteristics ofthis occupation. However for Jane to even emerge into society, becoming agoverness seemed the only reasonable path for her. The women of the Victorian Era can be regarded as the first group to dobattle for the equality of the sexes. They lead all women to follow after them,and though their progression may not have been as vivid as the women of the 70s,they did have an effect. Feminism was not outright spoken of in this time,rather passed through literature, such as this very novel. Stories and novelswere the primary means in which to communicate information and ideas in thattime. Without mass communication systems books were the few informationcarrying devices to cross borders, and encompass lands whenever people traveled. Though many agree that Jane Eyre is a feminist novel, there are some who arguethat Charlotte Brontes only intention was to argue the social structure of thetime. They argue that the use of a women was simply so Bronte could relate tothe main character, not to prove any point in regards to equality of men and ofwomen. However, those who do see the feminist tendency in this novel may backtheir point by citing Janes response to Rochesters proposal in chapter 23 asone of the earlier breakthroughs towards feminism. When leaving Rochester the feelings of sadness, betrayal, andremorse were overwhelming and the floods overflowed her. However, she wasstill able to break free. The emotional side of females is thoroughly shown in thisquotation. Jane appears to have been almost completely taken away by thesefeelings, whereas Rochester not so much. Though this is left up to the readerto decide, as with many other aspects of this novel, it appears to me thatBronte is attempting to express the feminine side of Jane. He should be portrayed as a strong character. With definite grasp on most situations. I base this on the fact that in the text he is referred to as a kind man. And on pg27 it refers to proctor as a kind of fraud. But then immediately states that none of this had come to the surface. He is also very well respected within the village because of his sharp and biting way with hypocrites it says on pg27. Because of this I would expect others to feel slightly honored while around him. I would show this fact by making him look more troubled and threatened. I believe he feels great remorse for the fact he had an affair with Abigail. But he still feels a passion towards her. As he trys to hide this by saying I May think of you softly from time to time, but ill cut off my hand before I reach for you again. Because he feels very strongly to his wife Elizabeth. He is desperately trying to appear strong to deter Abigail. This is why I believe his voice should be clear and emotionless. But with the occasional moment of softness in his tone. As I briefly mentioned before he will have a tense relationship with Abigail, which will lead to him acting differently from the other scenes. I notice in other scenes he is very much in control of the situation. But here he is having trouble being totally honest. And doesnt give definite answers. For example when Abigail questions whether he has looked up at her window. He replies with I may have looked up. Showing he is insecure and unsure what to say. As I said previously he is normally in control of the situation, but here he loses his temper when Abigail mentions Elizabeth his wife. Which emphasizes the point that he feels very strongly towards Elizabeth. I would accept his body language to change here to a much more aggressive posture. And his Voice to be much firmer. In a mark of anger. Proctors movements would normally be big steps, slowly and surely. To project his proud, tall, strong character. But in this scene I would expect a much more agitated movement. Possibly pacing back and forth when he is unsure what to say, and being much more hurried when he becomes angry. His voice should build up throughout and become more passionately furied as Abigail continues to question him. And his facial expressions should display a hint of disgust, as it says he is angry with himself. So he is obviously frustrated. Finally at the later end of the scene he should go back into the Proctor everyone knows when Reverend Paris comes into the room. And try regaining control over the situation.
